Student Novels

November is an inspiring month in Sophomore English at SUCCESS Academy. Students participate in

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)

and write their own novels in 30 days. The final products are unpolished perfection. As author Rosaline Eves told Sophomore classes, “A draft just has to exist to be perfect.” We invite you to read these novels. Once you have finished a novel, please cast a vote by evaluating the novel. (And then read another one!)

Writing a great story is its own reward, but Mrs. Springer is so proud of the students’ efforts that she is also throwing in a $50 prize for the author with the highest average score.  Please read at least TWO stories then fill out the judging form. In addition, Mrs. Springer will award an additional $50 prize for teacher’s choice. She will award this prize from the pool of published whose word count has reached 18,000 or more words. Happy reading!

The opinions in the student novels are the opinions of the students, and not necessarily those of SUCCESS Academy.

Life as a Fairytale

By Claire Wood

Rated: PG-13

Mira swings her sword with just as much grace as when she dances and charms others in the court. She has a fondness for crashing waves against sand, the beauty of horses and the freedom of her quiet life near the harbor. A crown was never part of her plan.

When Mira is summoned by the King to participate in The Princess Trials she competes against fourteen other girls in brutal trials meant to test strength, wit, and loyalty. Each challenge pushes Mira beyond her limits, as well as forces her to question not only what she truly wants, but who she is willing to become.

As the trials grow harder, the Prince reveals himself as more than just a title. He is a skilled swordsman, a gifted rider, and someone who is drawn to Mira’s strength. Yet far beyond the palace walls awaits Forest, her best friend and the boy who knows her heart.

Caught between two futures, Mira must decide what kind of fairytale she wants to live, because this fairytale doesn’t ask who will win. It asks what Mira is willing to lose.

Lucromancy

By Shawn Tebbs

Rated: PG for moderate violence, death, and warfare

Phillip is just an ordinary guy, living his life in a different world called Stratum. One day, a guy called Connor unexpectedly pops into his life from earth. Together, they go on a quest to find answers, save the world, and get Connor back home. This book may be relatively slow paced compared to the others, but trust me, it’s written extremely well and full of incredible and exciting plot twists. If you’re planning on reading a student novel, this one is the most enjoyable.
